Engineered Slabs

At Eastern Earthworks Ltd., we provide expert design and installation of Engineered Slab Foundations, offering a modern, efficient, and robust alternative to traditional foundations, particularly suited for areas requiring superior structural support or where frost penetration is a concern. Our engineered slabs provide an immediate, finished floor surface, simplifying the construction timeline while delivering outstanding long-term performance for a variety of building types. Specializing in the necessary site preparation and precision forming, we ensure every slab is designed to carry the specific loads of your structure while meeting all regional building codes.

Our Core Engineered Slab Services Include:

  • Design and Geotechnical Review:

    • Collaboration with Engineers: Working closely with structural engineers to develop a slab design (e.g., thickened edge slab, post-tensioned slab, or slab-on-grade) tailored to the building's specific load requirements and the site's unique soil bearing capacity.

    • Sub-Grade Preparation: Detailed excavation and leveling of the subgrade, followed by the installation of proper vapor barriers and insulation (rigid foam) to meet energy efficiency requirements and prevent moisture intrusion.

  • Forming and Reinforcement:

    • Precise construction of forms to the engineered dimensions, including critical perimeter thickened edges (monolithic pour).

    • Installation of all necessary reinforcement, including steel rebar, wire mesh, and, if specified, post-tensioning cables, meticulously placed to ensure maximum tensile strength and minimize cracking.

  • Integrated Utilities and MEP:

    • Prior to the pour, careful integration and routing of all in-slab Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, including drain pipes, water lines, and radiant floor heating elements.

    • Verification that all utility penetrations are properly sealed and protected before concrete placement.

  • Concrete Pour and Finishing:

    • Expert placement and finishing of high-strength concrete, using techniques like power troweling to achieve a durable, level, and ready-to-use floor surface.

    • Rigorous quality control during the pour to ensure the specified slump, air content, and smooth finish are achieved.
